Anna Vigeland works by turns as a researcher, translator, choreographer, performance writer and (co) director, and arts facilitator. 

Her work and projects include trapeze installation Corridor/Hallway of Trapezes (Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival); a site-specific trio in the Norwegian Arctic Circle (Arctic Cultural Centre); a collaboration with Athens-based artists drawing off one of their poems (Kinitiras Studio, Greece);  a promenade performance series with circus and other artists from across Bulgaria; site specific projects for Italian festivals InTeatro (Polverigi) and Alta Stagione (Naples); and a current oral history and performance project re-presenting other artists’ memories of shows.

 

As a collaborator on others’ projects: Anna spent three seasons as circus choreographer with sailing political theater Caravan Stage; translated scripts for circus shows (The Lost Chapter/7 Fingers/Sharjah World Book Capital 2019); translated essays and hundreds of other texts for circuses and other arts groups (Cirque Plume, Teatro Dimitri, 7 Fingers); conducted interviews connected to Hamburg ports and co-devised them into a performance on a barge (ITI Germany /Theater der Welt Festival); and continues to support others' projects as a choreographer, translator, researcher, and facilitator.

Anna began her career as a circus performer. She's a graduate of the National Circus School of Montreal and the University of Massachusetts.

Her work has been supported by TCG Global Connections funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the German Center of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) Artist Participation Grant program, the first  Aloft “High Res” Incubator Support grant, Fractured Atlas' former Creative Development grant program, le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Canada Council for the Arts. She's been an artist in residence at Arts Printing House (Vilnius, Lithuania), Yugoslav Drama Theatre (Belgrade, Serbia), Dansarena nord (Hammerfest, Norway), TeatrInGestAzione (Naples, Italy), Antitesi (Pisa, Italy), InTeatro (Polverigi, Italy), Aloft (Chicago, IL), and Kinitras (Athens, Greece). 

 

Anna began her career as a circus performer (7 Fingers, Lookingglass Theater, Cavalia, Universal Studios Japan, Circus Reaction, Franco Dragone Productions/RTP TV2, Cirque du Soleil events, Cirque Eloize events, NYC Aerial Dance Festival, Y2D Productions/Aiguilles à tricoter, TeatrInGestAzione/Alto Fragile, etc.).

 

She's a graduate of the National Circus School of Montreal and the University of Massachusetts.
